Ik ben altijd anders geweest. Ik kom uit een gebroken gezin en woon al heel mijn leven bij mijn oma, en als het al niet “raar” genoeg was dat mijn ouders mij niet op kwamen halen na school, was ik ook nog eens dik, en alternatief. Ik heb nooit erkenning kunnen vinden in leeftijdsgenoten en ben daardoor buitengesloten. Ik heb me zo geschaamd om wie ik was, en dat ik niemand had die mij begreep.

In de foto probeer ik de schaamte te laten zien die ik voelde/voel over wie ik was en hoe ik eruit zag. In de foto zit ik op een bankje, naast een oude foto van mijzelf, en ik draai weg van haar/mij. Ik vind het zonde dat kleine ik me geschaamd heeft over wie ze was en hoe stoer het was dat ze gewoon deed wat ze wou. Ik ben nog steeds haar en ben zo trots op mezelf en mijn keuzes.

Rabecca heeft een reactiefoto gemaakt, dit project en mijn buddy hebben mij zo gezien laten voelen. Ik vind de reactie van Rabecca zo mooi, omdat het me herinnert dat het oké is om niet binnen een plaatje te vallen! Blijf jezelf, dat is het mooiste.
